Beginning from 24th January until 1st Feb 2002, Sports Toto Malaysia Sdn. Bhd. will set up distribution centres in 42 cities and town throughout the country to distribute New Year gifts in the form of ang pows and mini hampers to about 14,000 needy senior citizen of all races whose ages are 60 years and above. The company had set aside a sum of RM65, 000 for this annual charity campaign.
Announcing the launch of this year's charity drive over a press conference today, Sports Toto Malaysia Executive Director Ng Foo Leong said, this year's Chinese New Year Ang Pow donation campaign would be officially launched on 24th Jan at Selangor Chinese Assembly Hall.
He said, more than 500 Sports Toto staff and agents would be involved in this festive charity drive.
"Each recipient will receive an ang pow and a mini hamper. For the convenience of folks who find it difficult to travel to the distribution centres, especially those who stay in old folk's home, Sports Toto will charter buses to fetch them to the venue to receive their gifts." He said.
Ng added, "We will set up a mobile distribution centre in Ulu Yam to give away Toto New Year gifts to recipients in the areas."
Ng told the press that the donation drive is carried out under Sports Toto's "giving something back to society" charity program with an objective to bring some cheer to needy folks of various races during festive season of the Chinese New Year.
"It is also our hope that through this small gesture of ours, we can contribute towards creating a caring Malaysian society and help to promote the value of love, compassion, care for each other and respect for the elder. " He said.
